alpine picabo

Names: Alpine and Picabo
Sex: Females
Age as of 4/07: Alpine (12), Picabo (14)
Into Foster Care: 2002
Comments: Alpine & Picabo came into rescue 4 1/2 years ago after
bein seriously abused.  They were skittish, nervous, &
terrified.  They did everything together because their
only security was each other's presence.  Picabo is
Alpine's mother, and her mission in life was to
protect Alpine.  Alpine, in turn, followed her mother
everywhere - that's where life was safe.  They took
bathroom breaks together, slept plastered against each
other, and huddled together trembling during the Most
Scary of Scaries, The Thunderstorm.

What a difference love and a warm home make!  The
girls are now secure enough that they can be apart
from each other and know that the world will not end.
Picabo has gained the most ground.  She willingly
meets newcomers, and will even let herself in and out
through the doggie door (a previous non-option for
her).  Even though we estimate her age at 14 years old
this spring, she loves her walks just as much as ever
and never runs out of energy.  Alpine, however,
remembers the pain from the past more than Picabo, so
she is quite content to lounge her days away curled up
in her bed where it's safe and quiet.  She still
doesn't like change or new things.  She doesn't mind,
though, that Picabo sleeps upstairs while she's
downstairs, so she has made progress.  She'll even hop
around the yard when she's feeling especially perky -
no small feat with an arthritic hip!!!

Alpine and Picabo had a hard life prior to their
arrival into Adopt A Husky.  Their foster family feels
very privileged to ensure that they'll live the rest
of their lives in comfort and peace.  Adopt A Husky is
committed to giving them their own Happily Ever After.
