Comments:

Oak, also known as Nemo, originally came from a shelter in Missouri.  He is a very sweet and handsome (please note his very striking looks!), but does not realize how big he is.  He is a very tall boy, who could stand to lose a couple of pounds.  He tries to be a bit bossy with other dogs, but is learning some new manners in his Illinois foster home.  He knows sit and down, but would definitely need an obedience class to refresh his memory.  He is very smart and very food motivated, so would be a quick study.  He will talk your ear off if you are not paying enough attention to him, but when you realize that your world does indeed revolve around him, this goofy, sweet boy will love you to no end.

Update:  Oak has discovered the joys of dog sledding!  Oak sure can run in harness so if anyone is looking to add to their team or have a skijor partner, Oak is your guy.  He is still learning, but shows an incredible enthusiasm for the sport and at this time the foster family will only consider adopting him to a family who will utilize his talents as a working dog.  This isn't to say that he would not make a great house dog as well, but Oak really loves to run and it is a great outlet for his energy level.  This is a dog that is built to run and has the drive to do very, very well, with a bit more training, which will continue while he is being fostered.

I want to apply to adopt a dog now.

All dogs are:

  • spayed or neutered prior to adoption
  • evaluated for temperament and trainability
  • up to date on ALL shots, including Bordetella (kennel cough)
  • heartworm tested and on preventative year-round
  • micro-chipped for identification
